Many people try for years to lose weight and keep it off. We know that weight loss is a lot more complicated than calories-in, calories-out. Factors like your activity level, medications, medical conditions, where you live and family history can all affect your weight.

We take care of anybody who thinks their weight is interfering with their goals or their health. Our approach to medical weight management starts with understanding the person: The best weight loss treatment is one that addresses the issues that caused weight imbalance in the first place.

With medically supervised guidance and coaching every step of the way, our team of experts works with you to help you achieve your lifestyle goals.

FAQs About Medical Weight Management

How does a medical weight loss program work?

At your first appointment, we will ask a lot of questions. We want to understand your full medical history, run blood tests, identify any unaddressed medical problems that could affect your weight and more. Weight is often a side effect of other factors. At the first appointment or two, we want to document and understand your history and potential causes of your weight gain.

Next, we can create a personalized plan for medical weight management. This uses all the tools available, from weight loss medications to surgery to support from a dietitian. We may also work with doctors in other specialties.

Weight management is a lifelong effort, and we work with patients over the long term to ensure they are reaching their health goals. We have locations in and around Chicago, as well as virtual care options, to make sure we’re available when you need us.

How much weight can you lose with medical weight loss?

It depends. Our goal with our patients is long-term weight loss success and better health. Research shows that, if you’re overweight, losing just 10% of your weight can improve your health. Some patients want to lose more and want to know all their options, including medications and surgery. Every person’s weight loss goals are different.

How quickly will I lose weight with medical weight loss?

This depends on your personal health and weight journey in the past, as well as the plan you choose moving forward. We are most interested in long-term success and better health — instead of short-term speed. We work closely with our patients to make sure they are meeting their goals sustainably and in ways that support their health.

Do you offer weight loss drugs?

Yes, when appropriate and with the right support. New classes of weight loss drugs can be effective when used correctly. These new classes of drugs are called semaglutide and tirzepatide, sometimes known by the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound. But they’re not right for everyone. When not used correctly, they can increase health risks in the future, such as the loss of muscle (sarcopenia and frailty) and loss of bone density (osteopenia and osteoporosis).

We use weight loss drugs as part of our comprehensive program, if they’re right for you and with proper education. We do not typically prescribe weight loss drugs on the first visit.

Does insurance cover medical weight loss?

Depending on your pre-existing conditions and insurance coverage, you may be covered. Our team can work with you to understand your specific benefits and coverage.
